Their teacher, Ms Makor, first arranged for Omar to give a presentation to the students at our new premises on William Boothlaan. He talked about himself, his products and his business.
Then on Friday 25 September, Ms Makor, Ms Ottaway and all 26 students went to Omar’s atelier Den Haag where he talked about how he promotes his products and his inspirations. The students were very excited and had lots of questions for Omar. It was a reality check for some on the costs involved in producing high quality bags and in promoting them. Omar had plenty of tips for our young entrepreneurs on how to start and get the most out of a limited budget.
There were also plenty of beautiful bags to look at in the showroom and Omar and his staff were very helpful showing the students some of the processes that went into the making of an expensive bag.
The 2F project involves making a bag which will be done under the expert supervision of Ms Makor. Maybe some students will have a change of mind after seeing what Omar had to offer – so many inspiring designs, textiles and colours!
The class is also currently busy with an assignment on Fashion Promotion with Ms Ottaway. This assignment is integrated with the Omar Munie project so that the students will also plan a promotion campaign for their own bag.
Many thanks to Omar Munie for his hospitality and inspiration. Will Omar come and judge the bags? Watch this space!
